He was the son of Daniel and Esther Ingraham of Middlesex Co., Connecticut and Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.

He was born about 1796 in Connecticut, but moved with his parents when he was about three years old to Pennsylvania.

War of 1812 - Henry served as a soldier in the Canton, Bradford Co., PA militia:

Excerpt from Pioneer & Patriot Families of Bradford County PA 1800-1825, Vol. II - Clement F. Heverly - Pages 217-221:
"After the British had burned the capitol at Washington in August 1814, Governor Snyder of Pennsylvania, evidently apprehensive of the dangers from the enemy and feeling the need of more troops for the defense of the state, on October 15th, issued an order calling the militia into service. Most of the Bradford county militia were taken from the 144th regiment, formed into a company and placed under the command of Eliphalet Mason of Monroe and was known as Mason's company. Let it be remembered that this was before the day of railroads, the telegraph and when only a small section of the county had even a weekly mail service. Yet in two weeks' time, the Bradford county militiamen, scattered throughout a great wilderness, assembled at the mouth of Towanda creek and on a raft pushed down the river. They reached Danville on the 5th of November and there rendezvoused until the 25th, when all danger being over, they were discharged. For their services of 28 days, each private received the magnificent sum of $1.87, or 6 1/2 cents per day. The following comprised Mason's company:
Privates - Harry Ingraham, Canton"

By 1820, Henry had moved with his family to Geauga Co., Ohio, where he was enumerated living with his parents on the census that year.

But that same year, he moved on further west with his uncle Philo Ingraham and landed in Illinois:

History of Effingham, Lawrence, and Wabash Cos., IL
p. 281 – "Harry Ingraham came from New York about 1820 and settled on the W ½ of ect."

He married 17 Jan 1822, Edwards Co., IL, to Angeline Barney, daughter of William and Jerusha (Jefferson) Barney, early settlers of Illinois.

By 1830, Henry and Angeline had moved back east to Ohio and had at least two children, Barton and Emeline. This family living in Geauga County may be them, as this is the only Henry Ingraham listed in Ohio that year. In addition, Henry's father Daniel was living in the same county in a different township:

Barton B. Ingraham is one of the substantial farmers of Harter Township, living in Section 12, town 3 north, Range 6 east. He was born in Wabash County, Ill., April 3, 1825. His parents, Henry and Angeline Ingraham, were very early settlers in Wabash County, but while Barton B. was a mere child, they removed to Ohio, and in 1839 they again removed, this time going to the State of Pennsylvania, which was for many years their home. The father died in Ohio while on a visit, and the mother subsequently removed to Illinois, and died in Clay County in 1879.
