Joanna (Gann) Christian, 97 years, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the O.U. Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Joanna was born September 20, 1920 in Stilwell, Oklahoma to Joe and Katie (Livers) Gann. She attended Haskell Indian School where she took cooking, sewing and homemaking. After graduation she married Chester Christian and they later moved to Hominy. Joanna worked many years at Munsingwear sewing factory as a seamstress. After retirement she loved spending time working out in the yard and in her flower beds. She took much pride in her flowers, especially all her different colored Iris plants. She enjoyed going to town to visit and she especially loved stopping in to torment and joke around with the workers at City Hall, the Dollar Store, Marvin’s and Marsha’s Hair Salon. Joanna loved her family. Her door was always open and no matter if it was a small or large gathering, and she always made sure there was enough food and laughter for everyone who stopped by. She loved sewing clothes and other items, making crafts and cooking for family and friends. She had two granddaughters, whom she loved dearly, and devoted much of her time sewing clothes, blankets and other items. Her family absolutely loved her whole-heartedly, and will miss her like crazy, but hated to see her suffer. “There’ll be no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see. There will be peace in the valley for me”. Joanna was preceded in death by: her parents, Joe and Katie (Livers) Gann; her husband, Chester Christian; her brothers: Woodrow, John E., Hoolie and Finis; her sisters: Cynthia, Sally and Cherokee; her brother-in-law Clifford Gritts; her nephew Joe Gritts; and her great-nephews Danny Joe Gritts and Trevour Gritts. The funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Hominy, Oklahoma with the Pastor Mark Formby officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
