Joe V. Morgan, 89, of De Leon, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at Comanche County Medical Center. He was born Oct. 30, 1920 in De Leon where he was a lifelong resident. His parents were George and Viean Morton Morgan. He married Mary Frances Carruth on May 3, 1942.

She preceded him in death on April 18, 2010 after 68 years of marriage. He graduated De Leon High School in 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and flew 50 missions in a B-17 over Europe. He was a farmer and rancher for 63 years.

Funeral Services were held at De Leon First Baptist Church on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 with his former pastors, Rev. Tom Satterwhite and Rev. Cecil Harper officiating. Burial followed in the De Leon Cemetery. Music was provided by Rocky and Martha Bunting and Pam and Loyd Rush. Pallbearers were his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

He is survived by four sons: Jerry and James Morgan, both of DeLeon, Bill Morgan of Plano and Rick Morgan of Plano; eight grand children: and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, Charles and Kenneth Morgan.

∼Joe V. Morgan, 89, of De Leon, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Comanche County Medical Center. He was born October 30, 1920 in De Leon where he was a lifelong resident. His parents were George and Viean Morton Morgan. He married Mary Frances Carruth on May 3, 1942.
She preceded him in death on April 18, 2010 after 68 years of marriage. He graduated De Leon High School in 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and flew 50 missions in a B-17 over Europe.
He and Frances started their farming, ranching and son raising on their place west of De Leon in 1946 and he finally retired December 31, 2009, after 63 years. He had a diversified operation raising peanuts, chickens, cattle, hogs and peaches. He was an early proponent of Coastal Bermudagrass for our sandy land.
He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in De Leon where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and served in many other capacities. He was actively involved in his community serving as Chairman and Director of Comanche Electric Cooperative, Director of De Leon Hospital, Director of the Cemetery Association and President of Comanche County Farmers Union. He was recognized as Outstanding Conservation Farmer, Farmer of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and he and Frances were accorded the Golden Deeds Award by the Chamber.
Funeral Services will be held at De Leon First Baptist Church on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. with his former pastors, Rev. Tom Satterwhite and Rev. Cecil Harper officiating. Family visitation was held on Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the De Leon Cemetery. Music will be by Rocky and Martha Bunting and Pam and Loyd Rush. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the DeLeon First Baptist Church Deacons, the Loyalty Sunday School Class and his B-17 crew members: Bud Reeder, Wilbur Klopfenstein and Dennis Trotter. Services will be under the direction of Nowlin Anders Funeral Home of De Leon.
He is survived by four sons: Jerry and Sheri Morgan of De Leon, James and Patrice Morgan of De Leon, Bill and Kay Morgan of Plano, and Rick Morgan of Plano; eight grand children, Julie and Matt Christensen of Richardson, Karen and Erin Weaver of LaVernia, Amy and Joe Green of North Haledon, New Jersey, Katie and Paul Michael Vacca of Watauga, Robby and Stacy Morgan of Austin, Clint Morgan of Dallas, Ali Morgan of Dallas and Michele Riojas of Austin; and eight great grandchildren.
He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Mae Morgan, June Carruth and Evelyn Hare all of De Leon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Jack, Charles and Kenneth Morgan; daughter-in-law, Beth Morgan; brothers-in-law, Billy Carruth, Billy Joe Hare; and sister-in-law, Mary Nell Morgan.
