Frank W. James, 74, prominent Cody businessman and resident of the Cody community for 37 years, died at the West Park County Hospital Wednesday, April 10th, after a long illness.
Born the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren James November 11,1893 in Indian territory of Oklahoma, he moved to California in 1917 following service in the U. S. Army in World War I. He moved to Billings in 1927 and to Cody in 1931. He started the Sani-Dairy store in 1937 and at the time of his death owned and operated the Stockade and Rodeo Motels.
He married Ethel Strayer in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Methodist Church with the Rev. William Corlett of the Methodist Church assisted by Rev. Charles Clayton of the Highland Baptist Church officiating. Musical numbers were given by Mrs. Alexander Hindman as vocalist with Mrs. William Wibel as organist.
Burial was at Riverside with graveside services by the Elks Lodge and military graveside honors.
Pallbearers were John Hume, Curtis Buckingham, Clyde Fine, Ray Raile, Bruce Nelson and Albert Nielson. Honorary pallbearers were E.J. Goppert, Wayne Messenger, C. E. Webster, Lyle Ellis, S. P. Van Arsdall, Jim Worst, Herb Ernest, Quin Blair, Arnold Franks and Harry Moore.
He is survived by his widow, of Cody; a son, Frank, with the Marines in Vietnam, who was here for the services; a daughter, Fran, attending the University of Wyoming at Laramie; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Haigood of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Mrs. Bertha Hutchins of Yuba City, California and Mrs. Mary Lou Smith of Yuma, Arizona.
