Burl Ray Darter, 90, of Atkins, went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 22, 2017, surrounded by his family and the compassionate staff of the Atkins Nursing and Care Center.

He was born August 31, 1927, son of the late William Archie and Nettie Elvira Burks Darter in the Buttermilk Community.

He was of the Assembly of God faith and led many to the Lord.

He served in the U.S. Army and witnessed to numerous veterans at the VA Hospital in Little Rock until he was no longer able to visit.

He worked as a machinist at International Shoe Company, Barry of Conway, and SAS Shoes for almost 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Retha Darter; son, Burl Ramon Darter; and a daughter, Linda McCuin.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Arkie Marie Burris Darter; sister, Reba Duvall; two daughters, Brenda and husband Mike Huse of Buttermilk, and Glenda and husband Jerry McCuin of Appleton; daughter-in-law, Judy Darter of Buttermilk; 2 grandsons, Nathan Darter and Jeff Biffle; granddaughters, Sara Turney, Bethany George, Carla Oakes, Christina Reed, Rhonda Lumbreras, and Rebecca Davis; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Tuesday, at Lemley Chapel with Rev. Darwin Barnhouse and Rev. Tommy Oakes officiating.

Burial is in Tate Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
