Polkton – Mrs. Barbara Bricker Wright, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, surrounded by her family at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, September 15th in Williams Cemetery with Rev. Curtis Williams officiating.

Born in Anson County on June 22, 1945, Barbara was a daughter of the late Anne Thomas and Ralph Waldo Bricker. A lifelong resident of Anson County, she graduated from Anson High School and then married Roy C. Wright, Sr. She also worked a number of years for the I.D. Russell Company in Marshville.

Barbara was a longtime member of Brown Creek Baptist Church and served many years as a Sunday school teacher for the youth. She had a great affection for the young people of the church and they loved her as well.

Barbara was widely known in the community as a champion for stray animals. Many times she could be found driving to where they were located, in sunshine or rain, to leave food and water for them. She also enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels surrounding her home.

Survivors include three children, Roy Craig Wright, Jr. (Teresa) of Troy, Dr. Danny Lee Wright (Meri Beth) of Peachland, and Angela “Cissy” Griffin of Peachland; eight grandchildren, Melanie Wright Coates (Sam), Miranda Wright, Dalton Wright, Tori Griffin Ross (Jay), Jordan Wright, Liberty Wright, Maddie Wright, and Davis Wright; and three great-grandchildren, Mason, Deacon, and Beckett Coates. An infant son, David Scott Wright, preceded her in death.

Also surviving are her three siblings, Sylvia Bricker Ballard of Summerville, SC, Ralph Waldo Bricker, Jr. (Laura) of Beaufort, SC, and David Thomas “Tommy” Bricker (Nancy) of Polkton; and a lifelong friend, Janet White.

Barbara’s family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all of her friends for the love and devotion so overwhelmingly demonstrated during these last weeks. Your cards, calls, flowers, and food have meant so much to all of us. Barbara loved each of you dearly.

Memorials may be made to the Brown Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 4210 Hwy 742 North, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
