Thomas was the husband of Chong Suk Y. Brown and the son of Greta M. Lester residing with Mr. Charlie Runge of Red Deer Alberta Canada. He enlisted in the US Army and arrived for duty in Vietnam on June 23, 1968 where he was assigned to and served with D Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division, USARV

At approximately 0240 hours of the morning of December 2, the Squadron area at Phuoc Vinh in Binh Duong Province was 8 rounds of enemy 82mm mortar fire. On round hit the staff NCO living quarters killing two troopers and wounding twenty. One of the casualties was SSG Thomas Brown who was killed by the hostile mortar fire,
