Mr. Newton died March 9, 2007, in Dallas.
He was born March 5, 1932, in Mountain Home, Ark., to the late Elmer Kenneth Sr. and Ellen Schmidt Newton. He lived in Kirksville, Mo., prior to moving to Dallas in 1945, where he graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School. He served as a tank commander in the Army, and later owned and operated E.K.'s Interiors in Dallas for more than 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dallas, and was preceded in death by stepsons, James Slagle and Jack Bell.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Edna Mae Hagood Newton, Dallas; son, Kirk Newton, Edgewood; stepdaughter, Shirley Mikus, Rockwall; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
