MATTOON — Elizabeth Josephine Bynum, 80, of Mattoon died at 8:40 p.m. Monday (Sept. 9, 1996) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Brother Jim Davisson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1915, in Portage, Ohio, the daughter of James F. and Edith Clary Farris.
She married Ben England; he died in 1945.
She married Owen Mapes; he also preceded her in death.
She married Gordie Bynum in 1958; he died in 1968.
Survivors include two sons, Jim A. Mapes of Charleston and Bill B. England of Neoga; five daughters, Mary Ellen Mapes of Belton, Texas, Mrs. Elwood (Lillian) Kemper of Greenup, Mrs. Lee (Carolyn Sue) Van Dyke, Mrs. Sherman (Helen Irene) Reed, and Mrs. Leo (Edna) Kelley, all of Mattoon; 1 brother, Ben Farris of Mattoon; 19 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Mrs. Bynum was a homemaker and had worked as a nurse's aid at the Cunningham Rest Home. She was a member of the Light House Mission in Charleston.
