Charles "Chuck" Boyden, 85, of rural Wellington died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at his home.

Born Aug. 19, 1921, at Milford, he was the son of William and Rella (Clinard) Boyden. He married Geraldine Allen on Jan. 25, 1948, at Cissna Park.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; one son, Alan (Debbie) Boyden of Milford; one son-in-law, Tom O'Malley of Ambia, Ind.; five grandchildren, Alicia (Aaron) Chaon of Bloomington, TJ (Megan) O'Malley of Lafayette, Ind., Jackie (Masen) Norton of Sheldon, Julianne Boyden of Indianapolis and Schuyler Boyden of Milford; three great-grandchildren, Boyden Chaon, Masie Norton and Presley Sue O'Malley; two sisters, Joyce (Derald) Brackman and Betty Cross, both of California; two brothers, Earl (Donna) Boyden of Texas and Dick Boyden of Pennsylvania; and a special nephew, Rick (Kathy) Boyden of Wellington. He was preceded in death by a loving daughter, Sue, his parents, four sisters and one brother.

Chuck attended Ambia School for three years and graduated from Wellington High School in 1939. He farmed in Prairie Green Township and went to the service in 1942.

He served in the infantry for 21/2 years in the South Pacific. He was staff sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Oak Leaf Cluster.

He served on the Wellington school board and Wellington United Methodist Church board, was Prairie Green Township road commissioner and Prairie Hustlers 4-H leader and served 39 years as a volunteer fireman for the Wellington-Greer fire department. He was a member of the Wellington United Methodist Church and Cissna Park American Legion. He was an avid reader and a Civil War buff.

He has served as president of Winter Haven Village Inc. in Pharr, Texas, for 34 years. Chuck never retired and continued working with his son and grandson on the family farm. He loved life and was an example for his family.
