Lawrence Raymond Allen, 90, passed away on September 15, 2017 in a local hospital.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Lawrence was born on November 1, 1926 in Rotan, Texas to Henry Raymond and Myrtle May (Tackett) Allen.

He was drafted to the United States Navy during World War II and served as a seaman 2nd class on the USS President Jackson in the South Pacific.

He and his wife, Nila Bailey Pittman married on June 10, 1966 in Big Spring, Texas.

He retired from Texas Department of Transportation after 33 years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working and loved reading.

He was a firm believer in honesty, following the rules and the integrity of a hand shake.

He is survived by his wife, Nila Fae Allen, four sons, Sidney Allen of San Angelo, Ronnie Allen of Miles, David Pittman and Mark Allen both of Big Spring; two daughters Sue Phifer of Mineral Wells and Londa Hail of Big Spring; nineteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Wanda Carmack; three granddaughters, Hannah, Markee and Cindy; two sisters, Lometa and Golda and one brother, Walton.

Due to being a 13 year survivor of pancreatic cancer the family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 400 Scurry Street, Big Spring, Texas, Heritage Museum 510 Scurry Street, Big Spring, Texas 79720, American Cancer Society % Vicki Stewart, #6 Coachman Circle, Big Spring, Texas 79720 or the American Diabetic Association 2451 Crystal Drive, Ste. 900, Arlington, Virginia 22202.
