Mrs. Mary Runkle Dies At Age Of 92
Death Occurs At Home Of Granddaughter In Jackson Township Sunday
Mrs. Mary Melissa Runkle, 92, widow of Peter Runkle, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Russell Sills, of Jackson township, after an illness of several years. Death was due to infirmities of age. She had been seriously ill for the past three weeks.
The decedent was born Sep. 7, 1848 in Wayne county, O., and moved to Wells county with her parents when she was eight years of age. She had resided in the county since that time. Her marriage to Peter Runkle took place Oct. 3, 1867. He was a member of the Company A., 47th regiment, Indiana Volunteers in the Civil War. His death occurred many years ago.
Surviving are a brother, Oscar Bevington, of Jackson township, the granddaughter, Mrs. Madge Sills, and a grandson, Glen Proper, of Tulsa, Okla. Two sons, C. R. Runkle, and Charles S. Runkle, and a daughter, Mrs. Essie Proper, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (CST) at the Church of Christ in Montpelier, of which Mrs. Runkle was a member, in charge of Rev. James G. Saylor, of Wabash, assisted by Rev. R. G. Jones, pastor of the church. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Montpelier.
