Ruben was the son of Joseph Derhammer and Rachael Doll and born in Northampton, Pa. He married Ann Elizabeth Boyer in 1835. He moved to Ohio about 1849. He had 10 children Hannah, Cathrerine, Elizabeth "Lizzie", John G., William Henry, Aaron F, Rachael, Marietta, Frank, and Christian.
