Armstead and Amanda Kirk were married in Tennesse and with their children they started for Illinois. On the way Armstead took sick and died somewhere on the road. Amanda and her children came on to Illinois with their oldest son driving the wagon. Amstead's mother was a Cain, so Amanda looked to the Cains for help when she arrived in Illinois. The Kirk family migrated from Scotland and are first found In Philadelphia, Pa

Morgan County Illinois Probate Court In the name of God, Amen.
I Armsted Kirk of the State of Illinois, County of Morgan, being weak and low in body but in perfect mind and memory, and calling to mind that it is once appointed for man to die,

First, I reccommend my soul to God who gave it me and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner,at the discretion of my Executrix, and as touching what it has pleased God to five me of this worlds goods I wish disposed of in the following manner to-wit;
First it is my wish and desire that my dearly beloved Mary Kirk shall be my sole Executrix and that she have the benefit of all and singular the goods and cattels to-wit; Three head of horses; one yoke of cattle, one wagon and harness, household and kitchen furniture with all the tools which I possess, to have and to hold or to dispose of at his own discretion or as she may think best for his own as my children advantage and I do hereby disannual all former wills or testaments by me or in my name made and do make this my last will and testament in testimony where unto I have here unto set my hand and seal this 21st day of September in the year of our Lord 1831 in the prescence of Samuel Bristow Armsted Kirk (seal ) Samuel Bolinger Joseph Cox George N.
