Surviving James are his wife of 70 years, Patricia; sons: Robert (Yuna) and James; grandchildren Kristen, Nicholas, Melissa, Amanda and Michael. His daughter Janice preceded him in death.
James graduated from Roberts Township High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1942-1945, honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sargent. He served in Italy on a B-24 as an aerial gunner. Decorations he received include the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and five battle stars to the European Theater Ribbon. James was a member of the Shelbyville American Legion.
On December 25, 1947 James and Patricia Jane Terry were united in marriage in the home of Patricia. In June of 1950 James graduated from Illinois State University. He worked for the Farmers Home Administration for over 30 years, retiring in 1979 and subsequently moving to Shelbyville with his wife and son James. In 1988, they moved to the Terry Farm where his wife grew up. It was here that he peacefully passed away.
James had a variety of interests. He was an avid sports fan, loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed working outside on the farm. He was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, serving as district President.
Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville followed by a graveside service at 3:30 P.M. at Glenwood Cemetery with Reverend Timothy Yankee officiating and Military Rites performed by the Shelbyville American Legion Post 81.
