Betty Jean Volkman, 89, of Gothenburg, NE, died September 11, 2017 at Saunders Medical Center Long Term Care in Wahoo, NE.

She was born December 30, 1927 in Lexington, NE, daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Wilsey) Wolfe. Betty lived at Lexington until her marriage to Gene Kenneth Volkman on November 23, 1952. Betty and Gene had four children - Jeanette, Darla, Kenneth and David.

Betty was a teacher and taught in many different schools. The family lived at New Castle, WY (1952-56), Lexington (1956-68), Gothenburg (1968-77), Hereford, TX, (1977-94), Gothenburg (1994-2015), Wahoo, NE (2015-2017). Betty was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers, PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, and VFW. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church where she was a Deaconess and sang with the choir. She enjoyed Nebraska football, knitting club, the VFW Auxiliary; but most of all she cherished visits from her kids, grandkids and friends.

Survivors include her daughters - Jeanette Wolf of Lincoln, Darla (LaMonte) Schlake of Gothenburg, son, David (Kathy) Volkman of Omaha; daughter-in-law Bev Volkman, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; sister Alice Wolfe; brother, Derald (Peg) Wolfe; along with many extended family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mildred Wolfe, her husband Gene (April 2009), her son Kenneth, grand daughters Kaylee and Shannon; sister-in-law, Jeanie Wolfe, son-in-law, Kenneth Wolf.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1020 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE, Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Boyd and Rev. Matt Coplen officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Lexington, NE. Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
