Mrs. Mildred Chester Barnes, age 89, died Saturday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was employed with Statesboro Coca Cola Bottling Company for 14 years as an inspector and Willingway Hospital in Statesboro as the Director of Housekeeping for 28 years. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Nevils Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pierce Barnes in 1976.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Julie Barnes of Statesboro; a grandson and his wife, Robby and Dina Barnes of Savannah and a sister-in-law, Esther Best of Statesboro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder W.I. Tidwell officiating.
Interment will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Larry Kingery, Randy Chester, Johnny Minick, Ronnie Minick, Wendell Best and Wayne Best.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Nevils Creek Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund, 4204 Ponderosa Road, Portal, Ga. 30450.
