Ebenezer H. Wood was appointed a commissioner by the governor of Missouri to assist two others in the location of the county seat of Gentry County, Missouri. After the county seat was located, and in 1845, Colonel Wood moved to Athens, now Albany, being the first attorney to settle in the new county seat. He died in August 1847. His was the first burial that occurred in the town.

Ebenezer H. Wood married Louiza M. Rowe 8 Oct 1839 in Delaware County, Ohio, and had at least four children:
Salome Wood Robertson 1830-1916 [mother was Mary Cone acc. to her DC]
Mariett "Mary" Wood Dougherty 1840-1923
Lorin Grant Wood 1843-1917
Florinda S Wood Stuart 1846-1873
