Lifetime area resident, Margaret Oestreich, age 81, of North Mankato, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato, with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary with a rosary service at 3:45 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Margaret was born January 17, 1926 in Mankato to Harry and Mary (Germscheid) Baker. She attended country school. On November 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Howard Oestreich at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marysburg. They made their home in North Mankato and raised two children, Ann and Todd. Margaret worked at Creative Education and later as a nurses aid at School Sisters of Notre Dame Good Counsel. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was active in lay ministry, choir, church women, and religious education. She volunteered with Birthright and ISJ Hospice program. Margaret enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, gardening, cooking, and bowling. Her passions included spending time with her family, attending family gatherings, and getting together at the lake.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Oestreich of North Mankato; two children, Ann Simondet, Todd Oestreich and wife, Diana all of North Mankato; five grandchildren, Cory (Crystal) Simondet, Sarah (Josh) Hutchens, Maggie Simondet, Mitchell Oestreich, and Jenna Oestreich; three great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Derek, and Torrance; five siblings, Joe (Marcela) Baker, Dick (Nancy) Baker all of Lake Washington, Jerry "Mick" (Maryann) Baker of Underwood, Patricia Roemhildt of North Mankato, and Jean Germscheid of St. Peter; in-laws and other family, including, Dick Germscheid, Norma (Russ) Iverson, Gretchen (Stan) Jenson, and Pat Hofer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Josh Simondet; six siblings, Bill, Jim, Bob, Catherine "Kate", Shirley, and Rosemary; in-laws, Myrna, Marge, Darlene, Steve, Al, Bill, Phillip, and Barb.
