Rosah Faye Smith, age 88, of Roswell passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017 at South Park Cemetery. James (Jim) C. Thommarson, MSG US Army Retired will be officiating.

Rosah was born to Mairde C. and Avice Hubbard Brandon in Quemado, New Mexico. She married the love of her life Donald Lee Smith December 20, 1947 in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. In 1952 they moved to Roswell, New Mexico. Rosah was the Dietary cook at the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center for 14 years until her retirement.

Rosah spoke of how it took her Mom, Dad Brandon and kids 6 months to move from Oklahoma to Quemado by wagon, only 1 of 5 kids were born in New Mexico. During the depression her Mom made Eggless, Milkless, Butterless. She was a member of the Recreation Center, also being a religious person was a member of South Manner Baptist Church over 50 years and belonged to Ladies Bible Group; she attended her church until she wasn’t able to. Rosah was strict, stern, but a very sweet and passionate person, she enjoyed having a meal ready every Sunday after church. Her best potato salad, carried from generation to generation was everyone’s favorite. Rosah will be dearly, dearly missed, her family is thankful she is no longer suffering and is at peace, resting with her husband, Donald Lee Smith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mairde C. and Avice Brandon; her husband, Donald Lee Smith; her brother, “Buster” Brandon; sisters, Iris Johnson and Vavial Brandon; grandparents on both sides; nephews, Stanley Bryant, Melvin Ray Bryant, Ronnie Brandon, JD Brice, Kenny Swinson, Chuck Swinson. Nieces: Emily (Branson) and Nancy (Smith).

She is survived by one sister: Juanita Bryant of Albuquerque, NM; sons: Sherman C. Smith, Daniel W. Smith (Deana) all of Roswell, New Mexico; daughters; Avice Edith Smith (Bill Smith) of Victoria, Texas, Donna Murray (Peter Hadsall) of Roswell, New Mexico, Vavial Ruth Reynolds (Joe) of Roswell, New Mexico.

Grandchildren: Timothy Brian (Barbara) Conrad, Robert Wayne Elton, Yvonne (Timothy) Wheeler, Matthew Sterling (Tiffany) Smith, Krystle (her partner) Smith, Brandon Lynn Smith, Donald Ray “Donnie” Smith, Rosah Lucille (Jerry) Terrell, Sherry Strength, Heather (Jason) Wagner, Stacey (Brandon) Yazzie, Ronald Lynn Lyons Jr., Vavial Dorothy “Sissy” Lyons, Donald Dewayne Lyons. Great-grandchildren: Evan Nichole, Dalton, Christopher, Christine, Megan, Stephanie, Ozlane, Justin, Kevin, Jason, Heather Yvonne, Damian, Mykalay, Amber, Casey, Jerry III, Edward, Gabrielle, Sarah, Rachel, Leahe, Nehemiah, Zechariah, Tamara, Talyiah, Amerikas, Dominic, Kayjah, Andrew, Beyonce.

Great great-grandchildren: Nathaniel and Athena Lea. Nephews: Truman Bryant Sr., Nolan Bryant, Mairde Brandon, Calvin Dale Brandon, and Roy Brown. Nieces: Anita Bell (Bryant) White, Kelly (Bryant) Wilson, Nelma Lewis, Anna (Smith), Diane (Brown), Rexlynn (Brown). Also 5 great-nephews and 5 great-nieces.
