Green was a farmer like his ancestors were probably farming the same land as they did. Before he married Mary Summers, he married Mary Ann Broach daughter of George and Rachel Broach. She died 21 May, 1845. She was seventeen years old He was 23. He married Mary Summers, 20 November 1848. She was 16years old, he was 26 years old. They had 12 children. Farmers needed all the children they could get. No wonder most of them had more than one wife!
When the Civil War was going on, he joined as a private in the State Guards August 1, 1863 in Macon, Ga. He was about 43 years old. This is from "Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldier from Georgia" Microfilm #266, National Archives, Washington,DC. He was in Captain Lockett's company, Bibb Hussars, Cumming's Battalion, Co. R, Georgia Cavalry. 'R' subsequently became Co. A. Major John T. Stevens 8th Battalio Calvary, Georgia State Guards.
