He married Margaret Elizabeth Yeatts and fathered Martha A. (b. 07/07/44 - married a Bosserman), Mary (b. 09/07/46 - married a Myers), and Daniel (b. @1859). In 1860, he was a farmer living in Tyrone Township, Adams County, and stood 5' 7" tall with dark hair and gray eyes. He is on the company register as "David," but the company descriptive list has him with the correct first name.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 7 as a private with Co. F, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863.

In 1870, he resided in Huntington Township, Adams County.
