Bert O. Butaud, age 90 of Hemphill, Texas passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Hemphill Care Center.

Mr. Butaud was born August 6, 1927 in Port Arthur, Texas to Nolan (126220775) and Flora Bell Bebarge Dreyer.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and later earned his master’s degree in Houston, Texas. He had earned football scholarships and played for both Lamar University and North Texas State University. He later went in to education where he was a football coach and an Assistant Principal for Port Arthur ISD.

Mr. Butaud retired from Port Arthur ISD and moved to the Fairmount Community in Sabine County, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hemphill and an avid tennis player.

He is survived by his son, Mike Butaud and wife Carla of Fairmount, his brother, George Dreyer of San Antonio, Texas, three grandchildren, Wade, Kyle and Katie, all of Utah, two great grandchildren, Kayli and Conner, also of Utah and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Butaud, his daughter, Patricia Butaud and his brother, Lloyd Butaud.

Graveside services will be held at 2pm Thursday, September 7, 2017 in the Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Brother Grant Barnes and Brother Bo Owens officiating.
