Services were held Friday at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls for Garnette Elizabeth Tersteeg, 83, who died Wednesday, July 24, 1991 at her home in Redwood Falls. Rev. Keith Duehn officiated. Myron Lindeman was the organist and soloists were Norman and Marlene Ramey.
Pallbearers were Ray Geline, Billy Frank, Paul Asleson, Gene Fenske, Elmer Knudson and Leroy Woodford. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Draeger, E.A. Johnson, and Mack Machart. Interment was in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in rural Redwood Falls. Nelson Funeral Home of Redwood Falls handled the arrangements.
Garnette Battershell was born Feb. 21, 1908 in Pochahontas, Iowa, a daughter of Samuel and Ada Belle Carter Battershell. After graduating from Olivia High School in 1925, she graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College in 1926.
She married Edward Tersteeg Dec. 27, 1931 in Minneapolis They lived in Redwood Falls, where she did some teaching and worked with her husband in the grocery store. Mrs. Tersteeg was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Redwood Falls, the Philolectian Study Club, various bridge clubs. She assisted with Cancer and Red Cross drives.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law Glenn and Judy of Rochester, NY, and James and Patti of Redwood Falls; six grandchildren; two sisters Ruby Anderson of Pacifica, Calif., and Inez Amadore of Los Angeles.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed and her two brothers Carter and Harold Battershell.
