The son of Daniel & Catherine (Hollinger) Baker, in 1860, he was a farmer living in Hamilton Township, Adams County, and stood 5' 8" tall with sandy hair and blue eyes.


A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 10 as a corporal with Co. K, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863.


After returning from the war, he married Susan M. Wolf and fathered Annie (b. @1866 - married a Hoke), Daniel W. (b. @1867), William P. (b. 1870), George W. (b. 07/18/72), Samuel W. (b. @1874), Mary K. (b. 10/??/76), Mark G. (b. 05/??/81), Susan S. (b. @07/??/83 - married a Stock), David S. (b. 05/??/85), and Robert M. (b. 05/18/87). He took up the ministry and, in 1870-1890, lived in Hamilton Township, Adams County. Following Susan's death in 1907, he married Lucy Keeney, née Hartman (or vice-versa), May 16, 1911. He died at age 85-9-5 in his son William's home.
