Benjamin Sims Pope, third son of Dr. John Hunter (1782-1860) and Emily Archer Worsham Pope (1800-38), was born on April 24, 1834, in Washington, Ga. He lived in Marshall, Texas. He and his brother, George Chapman Pope, raised stock for a while in Titus County, Tex. He married in 1862, Kate Hill (1838-1902). Their four sons were George Chapman, II (1865-72), Hobart Key (1866-91), Benjamin Sims, Jr. (1868-1905) and Barton Hunter Pope (1870-72).

Benjamin Sims Pope died on March 19, 1871. His wife, Kate Hill, died on January 12, 1902. They are thought to be buried in Greenwood or Marshall Cemetery, Marshall, Tx.
