A.E. Gabriel
Washougal - A.E. "Pete" Gabriel, a 50-year resident of Washougal, died Saturday, Aug. 22, in Vancouver. He was 94.
Mr. Gabriel was a charter member of Orchard Hills Golf and Country Club and the Washougal Lions Club. He was a past master of North Bank Masonic Lodge 182, a past patron of the Vashti Chapter 136 of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of Columbia Court 69 Order of the Amaranth, the International Order of Oddfellows and Columbian Rebedah Lodge 220. He served in the Oregon National Guard during World War II and was a member of the Washington National Guard. He enjoyed carpentry, golfing and traveling.
Mr. Gabriel was born March 7, 1904, in Dayton, Ore. He owned the Red and White Grocery Store in Washougal and Ochoco Hardware in Prineville, Ore.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth I., at home; two daughters Ellamae Mayfield of Prineville, Ore., and Diana Loop of Lake Oswego, Ore.; two sons, A. Lyndon of Vancouver, and George N. of Beaverton, Ore.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A service was Friday at Bethel Community Church in Washougal, where Mr. Gabriel has been a member since 1940. Burial was in Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Brown's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
