FUNERAL OF MRS. RICKS
The size of the gathering that assembled to pay the last respects to what was mortal of Mrs. A. A. F. Ricks, testified the great esteem in which the pioneer woman was held by the community, Those who had known her for years and those who had the privilege of her friendship in later years mingled in one throng to give expression to the sorrow that her death has caused. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from her late residence, corner of Fourth and G streets, under the auspices of the Society of Humboldt Pioneers, assisted by Centennial Rebekah Degree Lodge. Rev. J. S. Todd of Arcata, himself a pioneer, was the officiating clergyman. His words were most impressive as he paid tribute to the worth of the deceased and drew from her life and good deeds, a divine lesson. A choir composed of Mesdames W. P. Pratt and R. Sweasey and Messrs. A. J. Monroe and Henry Way and Miss Alice Way, organist, sang several beautiful and touching selections, among them being. "In the Hour of Trial," "Sleep Thy Last Sleep," "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me." The funeral cortege was many blocks in length, being headed by The Pioneers. The interment was at Myrtle Grove cemetery, in the Ricks mausoleum. The pall bearers were: William Carson and W. L. Mercer, honorary; N. Bullock, F. A. Clendennin, R. F. Herrick, T. M. Brown and R. Sweasey.
