John Harry Barger, 79, of Hickory, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Sherrills Ford Hospice in Sherrills Ford.
He was born to the late Garland Whisnant and Ordie Barger on March 24, 1938 in Catawba County.
John was a member of Faith Olive Baptist Church for many years and also served as a church Deacon. He was deeply loved by his family and will always be remembered for his love, faithfulness, and humor.
Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother, Ray "Bud" Barger and In-laws; Stewart Brooks and Grace Ward Brooks.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Brenda Barger of the home, son; Jerry Barger and wife Barbara of Hickory, daughters; Linda Bivins and husband Dennis of Hickory, Barbara Lowman and husband Robert of Hildebran, Donna Roberts and husband Kenneth of Sunset Beach, step-son; Benjy Dunn and wife Sherry of Biscoe, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, sister; Pauline Cook, sisters-in-law; Kay Schimanski, Rita Wiles and husband Doug, Lithia Brooks, and Debbie Wilhem and husband David.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Faith Olive Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Pastor Arthur Yount will be officiating the services. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
