Evelyn died Monday, February 26, 2007 at Aberdeen Healthcare Center.
Evelyn Marie Berka was born on December 25, 1920 to Knut and Edith (Hvammen) Knutson at Mellette, SD. She attended grade school at Mellette through the eighth grade and moved to Aberdeen when she was a freshman in high school. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. On July 15, 1938, she married Frank Gross and they made their home in Aberdeen. Evelyn worked ten years in the office of Montgomery Ward. She enjoyed playing organ in the Frankie Gross Orchestra for thirty-eight years. Mr. Gross died on January 18, 1980. On May 9, 1981, she married Chet Berka. Chet died on November 11, 1987.
Evelyn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Gross, Fargo, ND, Donald Gross, Seattle, WA, Dennis Gross, Aberdeen, SD; two stepsons, Richard Berka, Milwaukee, WI, James Berka, Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one sister, two brothers, and one step-son.
