Larrel Clefisch, 67, Moorhead, MN died on Sunday, April 6, 2014, in PioneerCare, Fergus Falls, MN.

Larrel Delene Benton was born on February 6, 1947, in Manning, Iowa, to Lester and Gladys Butterfield Benton. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1965 and graduated from the Antonian School of Practical Nursing, Carroll, Iowa, in 1966 and worked at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, after licensure.

She was united in marriage to Lewin Clefisch on May 25, 1968, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Dubuque, Iowa.

She worked at Billings Hospital ICU one of the University of Chicago's Hospitals for one year. In 1971, they moved to Bremerton, Washington. Larrel volunteered at the grade school and church.

In 1975, they moved to Everson, Washington. They adopted two children.

In 1988, they moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, where Larrel worked at the Lake Region Hospital and the Fergus Falls Medical Group. She became a Minnesota Master Gardener in 1998. She volunteered for over 11 years at the Minnesota Extension Services.

Larrel also liked to read, sew, embroider and quilt besides gardening indoors and out. She loved to make the best BLT's from her self-started heirloom tomato seeds. Traveling to Washington state, Europe, England, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, and Hawaii were eye openers and not just the plants but the people and culture.

She is survived by her husband, Lewin; daughter, Krystel (Christopher) Hyer; son, Nathaniel (Beth), and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry; her parents, and her stepfather, Herbert Howey.

Memorials may be given to Holt International Children's Services, Northern Plains Botanical Garden Society, the Landscaping Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Trinity Lutheran Foundation or any charity of your choice.
