Actor, Television Presenter, Comedian, Singer, Dancer, and Screenwriter. His career spanned over 75 years and he was one of Britain’s longest reigning entertainers. He was known for hosting several British game shows, "The Generation Game" 1971 to 1977 and 1990 to 1994, "Play Your Cards Right" 1980 to 1987 and 1994 to 1999. "The Price Is Right," 1995 to 2001 , and "You Bet", 1988 to 1990. He came to national attention from the mid 1950's through the television series Sunday Night at the London Palladium. In 1970 he played Swinburne in the Disney fantasy film Bedknobs and Broomsticks and in 1976 went on to appear in the "Muppet show". He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 1998 Birthday Honours. Bruce went on to co-presented Strictly Come Dancing from 2004 to 2013. During this time he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2006 New Year Honours, and was made a Knight Bachelor in the 2011 Birthday Honours for services to entertainment and charity. Sadly in February 2016 he had life-saving surgery and withdrew from public appearance, he later died age 89 at home. His funeral took place on Monday 4th September 2017 in private. Bruce’s ashes were buried a year later under the stage of the London Palladium Theatre. A blue plaque has been erected in his honor.
