Along with his parents and siblings, Richard moved to Montgomery County, Kentucky at a very young age. It was not until the later 1830s that the family migrated to Missouri.
Richard married Mary Wild on 2 Mar 1843 in Ray County, Missouri.
He was a farmer of modest means.
Richard was a charter member and one of the first officers (senior warden) of Myrtle Lodge 338 (A. F. and A. M.*) of Millville instituted by Elias Parrott and chartered in 1870.
