Richard David "Barney" McArdle, 86, of Lower Burrell died Friday (Dec. 10, 2004) in UPMC St. Margaret, Pittsburgh.

Born July 15, 1918, in New Kensington, he lived in the Valley all of his life.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and served with the 6672nd Service Company.

Mr. McArdle worked in the melt shop of Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge, for 39 years before retiring in 1975.

He was a member of Dayspring Christian Center, Brackenridge, United Steelworkers of America and Civilian Conservation Corps.

Mr. McArdle enjoyed travel, reading and mission trips with the church.

Survivors include two sons, David R. (Nancy) McArdle of Lower Burrell and Vernon Barkley of Glenshaw; a daughter, Marybeth (Steven) Pumphrey of Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lucille Shook McArdle; his second wife, Clara Edna Bischoff McArdle; three daughters, Carol Baker, Joyce Shurman and Dorene Ruddish; a grandson, Ian Scott McArdle; two granddaughters, Holly Gibson and Carolyn Roudebush; his parents, William Joseph Sr. and Mary Demange McArdle; two brothers, William J. Jr. and Jack McArdle; four sisters, Ruth Swaney, Elizabeth Mahaffey, Serena Bohy and Dorothy Dunn.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Raymond Patterson. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell.
