Graveside services for Gerald Calvin "G.C." James of Victoria, formerly of Tyler and Chandler, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at the Tyler Memorial Park. Interment will follow under the direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. James was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Hammond, Okla., the son of the late Grover C. and Nell (Howard) James. He passed away Aug. 27, 2006, in Victoria at the age of 82. Mr. James grew up in the Tuleta area, graduating from Pettus High School in 1943 and from Southwest Teacher's College in San Marcos. He was in education for 28 years, serving three years as Principal of George West Junior High School and 19 years as Principal of Chandler Elementary School. He saw the school grow from 89 students to nearly 400 when he retired in May 1983. Mr. James was a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church and the Chandler Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean James of Victoria; daughters, Lanna Wynn of Victoria, Marsha Shelton and husband Jim of Brownsboro; grandchildren, Monty Wynn and wife Rosemary of Austin, Emily Wynn of Victoria, Matthew Shelton and wife Mikell of Brownsboro, Alexa McAnally and husband Ryan of Laneville; great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Maggie Shelton, Garrett and Kate McAnally, Aiden Wynn; brother, George and wife Voncile of Lamesa; sisters, Jo and husband Rocky LaRocque of Sioux City, Iowa, and Dottie Drollinger of New Baltimore, Mich.
Pallbearers will be Monty Wynn, Matthew Shelton, Ryan McAnally, Jeffery Fulgham, Josh Fulgham and Cody Kidd.
