Married John F Booth, 1877

Urbana - Dec 18, 1890
Mrs Nancy Booth recently visited her two little girls at the Orphans Home at Bellefontaine. Her children were taken from her because she wasn't capable of raising them. In our opinion there are other children in Concord who aren't being raised right and have fathers to provide for them. And while people were so concerned about this poor woman they should have looked after the rest of the children in the township. We have a great many children here who have never been into a Sunday school nor church, but this woman kept her children in both Sunday school and day school whenever the weather would permit, and yet they would take them from her and let others remain among us.

William Ward Has His Sister-In-Law Arrested
Magistrate Seibert had a complicated case for hearing yesterday afternoon. The plaintiff, William Ward, an old resident of Concord, had a warrant sworn out for his sister-in-law Mrs Nancy Booth, who has been making her home with the Wards on a 2 acre plot of ground in the vicinity of Concord. Constable Brown went out and brought the defendant into the Squires Court and their stories were told. Mr Ward claims that Mrs Booth had threatened to kill him and has tried upon various occasions to burn the house in which they live. Ben Haines was there as a witness against the defendant, who is his sister. George Waite happened in and conducted the examinations. Mrs Booth does not appear to be overly bright, but when her brother was asked if she was not insane, he replied that she was not and that her actions were the result of "pure hellishness" and that she had been subject to fits in early youth. He accused her of living with James Nason for a year and a half without the formality of a marriage ceremony. Several witnesses were present and all testified substantially the same as Mr Ward as to her acts since residing with him. It appears that last fall, while a new roof was being put on the house, Mrs Booth built a fire in the cook stove after being admonished not to do so and the result was the place took fire and considerable trouble was experienced in getting it put out. The defendant denied all of the stories and stated that the fire was not her fault. She claimed it was a scheme to get her out of rightful property and wound up her testimony in a tirade against the plaintiff, her brother, and all who had testified against her. All of the parties are elderly people.
In the hearing before Magistrate Seibert tonight, the defendant was dismissed and the complaining parties were advised to consult the Township Trustees and have the woman placed in the infirmary.
