Wayne Glidewell Branscome, 92, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center, Wilmington.

He was born in Galax, Virginia on April 11, 1925, son of the late Victor A Branscome and Ella Banks Branscome.

Wayne graduated from Hillsville High School and attended Greenbrier Military Academy. He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the Air Force at age 17, and stationed in Norwich, England with the 467 Bomber Group. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he spent his career with DuPont as an accountant. He was a proud “Hokie”, enjoying going to football games with longtime friends every fall. He and his wife Ruby Arnold lived in Grifton, NC until her death in 1991. In 1994 he married Marjorie Ellington McKeown. He and Marjorie spent many happy years in Wilmington, traveling, going to ballgames and visiting family and friends. They were members of Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife Marjorie, he is survived by three daughters, Debbie Jones and husband Steve of Winnetka, Illinois, Susan Kyman and husband Alan of St. Louis, Missouri, and Linda Branscome and husband Mark Marotto of Chicago, Illinois; three step-children, Maclyn Slack and husband Richard, Daniel McKeown and wife Nora, and Julia McKeown, all of Wilmington; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 1, 2017, at the McDow Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 Main Street, Waynesboro, Virginia, with the Rev. Nancy Vaughan officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion.

Entombment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Road, Waynesboro, Virginia.
