Valois Braithwaite Hartley, 85, returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 27, 2017. Valois (Val) was born on a Sunday, January 17, 1932, in Arco, Idaho, to Francis and Emeline Braithwaite.

She was the youngest of six children: Jack, Melva Dean, Garth, Cleo, and Clevon and was the last to leave.

She lived her teen years near Brigham City, Utah, graduating a year early and then attending Idaho State College to receive her bookkeeping certificate. She returned to Arco to care for her parents and began her bookkeeping career at INEL, Idaho National Energy Lab, where they were building the prototype reactor for the world’s first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus.

In February 1952, she met the love of her life and married Leonard L. Hartley on September 26, 1952, in the Logan, Utah, temple. By January 1953, the two moved to Boise, Idaho, where they raised five children and worked together in real estate and insurance. They moved several times, including Oregon and Utah, and she was always ready and willing for the challenge and adventure.

Valois was so loving and caring and welcomed many into her home. She dearly loved gardening, art, and learning new things. She loved travelling, seeing nearly 40 countries and most of the United States. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in numerous ward and stake positions, including service missions, and also served with her husband as President of the Santiago Chile South Mission.

Valois was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, and a daughter in law, Renon Hartley.

Valois is survived by her husband Leonard and children, Marilyn (Gail) Thueson, Leonard Jr. (Melissa) Hartley, Douglas (Shelly) Hartley, Bonnie (Bill) Cottrell, Bill (Genevieve) Hartley.
