Richard K. "Dick" Bowers passed away on August 14, 2017, due to cancer.

He was born July 16, 1930, in Indianapolis, IN, to Ralph and Evangeline Bowers.

Dick earned a BS in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1952, an MS in electrical engineering from the University of Arizona in 1960, and graduated from the Army War College in 1970.

He served in the US Army for 30 years and retired in 1982 as a colonel. Among his various assignments, he served five years in Germany, three years in Belgium, two tours in Vietnam, and eight years at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. During his service in the Army he received two awards of the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, and three awards of the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Key Army assignments were Commander, 9th Signal Battalion; 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam; Commander, SAFEGUARD Communications Agency at Ft Huachuca; and Deputy Commander, Communications-Electronics Engineering and Installation Agency at Ft. Huachuca.

After retiring from the Army, he and his wife Joan moved to Tucson, where he worked for seven years as project manager for Bell Technical Operations, and then five years as consultant in the defense industry.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan N. Bowers.
