"F C Hesch Has Fatal Heart Seizure - May Have Over-Exerted Himself When Car Stuck on Dirt Road - DEAD MANY HOURS - Frank C Hesch, aged 64, one of the city's best known men, was found dead beside his automobile at 10 am yesterday, about a mile east of Clarion. The body was found by a Clarion glass worker on his way to employment. Dr E J Keeling of Clarion and James J Arner, acting Clarion County Coroner, both said Mr Hesch died from a heart attack evidently brought on by over-exertion. Dr Keeling said he had probably been dead nearly 24 hours. Mr Hesch knew he had a heart ailment and had been particularly careful of himself the past year. He was feeling especially well Tuesday morning and decided to go to the vicinity of Clarion, where he was interested in a coal property. He left his home, 327 East Main street, about 10 am, and members of his family said he was in good spirits and apparently better than usual. He drove to Clarion, where he spent the day and remained over night at the Anderson Hotel. He started out Wednesday forenoon to visit the coal property located on a single track dirt road leading from the Lakes-to-Sea Highway between Clarion and Strattanville. He had driven only a short distance on the dirt road before his car became stalled in a mud hole, and apparently it was while trying to get the car out that he suffered the fatal heart attack. Evidently Had Worked with Car - Mr Hesch had removed his coat and placed it on the seat of the car and as there were boards and other sticks near the car it is presumed he had used them in his effort to get the car started. State Police as well as the physician and acting coroner made an investigation. The body was brought to the William M Curtis funeral home here and will be taken to the family residence this afternoon, where friends may call...Final arrangements for services will be announced on Saturday. Frank C Hesch was a son of Jacob and Mary Hesch and was born on North First street in Titusville on Oct 3, 1882. He attended the city and parochial schools and at the age of 14 the family moved to Warren, where he grew to manhood. On June 6, 1901 (sic) [1905], he was married to Miss Lora Briggs of Warren and in the fall of 1906, they went to Welland, Ontario, where Mr Hesch served as superintendent of the Canada Foundries and Forge Works, operated by Thomas J Dillon. In 1921, Mr Hesch came to Titusville as superintendent of the Titusville Forge Works and continued with the Struthers Wells Corp, which took over the Forge and Iron Works, serving for some time as general manager. For about two years during the war he represented the corporation on the War Production Board in Washington, DC. Spent Recent Winters in Florida - On account of his health, Mr and Mrs Hesch spent the past two winters in Miami, Fla, but while in the city his advice was often sought by the company, although he was virtually in retirement. Mr Hesch was born in St Walburga's parish and later became a member of St Titus' church. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Warren and also affiliated with the reorganized Titusville Council. He was also a member of the Titusville City club and the BPO Elks and for several years was a member of the Rotary club, serving as its secretary. Previously, he had been a member of the Welland Rotary club. To Mr and Mrs Hesch were born six children. Lieut Commander Paul B Hesch, who served in the US Navy during the war, was killed in an airplane crash in the South Pacific on Dec 15, 1944. Besides the widow, there are the following children: Frank C Hesch, Jr, of Pittsburgh, Raymond Hesch of Panama Canal Zone, Russell Hesch and Mrs Raymond Crowley of Titusville, and Mrs William J Radack of Jamestown, NY. There are 12 grandchildren; four sisters: Mrs Elizabeth Zettel of Tonawanda, NY, Mrs Matilda Berst of Long Island City, NY, Mrs Helen Seymour of Titusville and Mrs Genevieve Godfrey of Jamestown, NY, and two brothers, Clarence J Hesch of Falling Rock, W Va, and F Harold Hesch of Lockport, NY."
