James “Jim” Peters joined his loved ones in heaven on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Services will be held at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Clovis Sturdivant and Rev. Marty Black will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, August 25, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, and Saturday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church.
Jim was born November 10, 1940 in Wisner, LA., the only son of Captain James Peters and Lora Martin Peters. He attended LA Tech where he met his lifelong love Ann Freeman (Peters). They married August 25, 1960 and began their life together in Baton Rouge, LA where he attended LSU. Jim operated his business, The Sun Tamer, for 36 years. He is preceded in death by his wife Ann of 55 years; his parents, Captain James M. Peters and Lora Peters Griffin. Jim and his family resided in West Monroe from 1966 until his death. He was a deacon at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church, a member of Irving Sills Men’s Class, a former deacon at Fair Park Baptist Church for 25 years, and a Gideon.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children; Krista Michele Brown Elayan and husband Jamil, Eric Todd Peters, and Kimberly Ann Peters Craft; four grandchildren, Lauren Brown Strange and husband Brandon, Kaitlyn Brown, Amanda Brown, and Garnett Elayan; and his dearest friend, Marjorie Ann Murphy.
Jim’s lifelong love of Alaska led to many trips there for the Iditarod, mission work, vacations with his wife, and graduation trips with his granddaughters.
Jim had a passion for missions, including Ray of Hope Ministries, Rolling Hills Ministry, Louisiana Disaster Relief, and church building in other countries.
Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Scott, Ted Grace, Jamil Elayan, Garnett Elayan, Tony Murphy, Toby Murphy, and men of Irving Sills Class.
Memorials may be made in Jim’s honor to Ray of Hope Ministries, Gideon International Bibles, and the building fund at New Chapel Hill Church.
