She died in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near her vehicle. Also killed were SGT Brandon A Parr and SGT Michael C Peek. Among her military awards and decorations were the Bronze Star Medal; Purple Heart; Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; and the Overseas Service Ribbon the Combat Action Badge. In October, 2009, a portion of state Route 2071 in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County, PA, was designated the SGT Ashly Lynn Moyer Memorial Road.
