Lois Doan Brady
July 29, 1918 - August 18, 2017

Lois Doan Brady, a resident of Ontario since 1955, passed away on August 18, 2017 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 99. Mrs. Brady, a retired elementary school teacher, was born on July 29, 1918 in Jadie, Oklahoma, a town named after her father William Jadie Doan. She was the last surviving child of William and Ovie Doan's eleven children. Mrs. Brady was especially proud that, despite the hardships her family endured during the Great Depression, she and many of her siblings graduated from college, while two of her brothers served in the United States Navy.

Mrs. Brady graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1936, then attending Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma. It was there that she met her husband, Charles H. Brady, who she married on March 25, 1939 in Sherman, Texas. She went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in education from East Central College in Ada, Oklahoma, at a time when few women received college degrees. Mrs. Brady began her teaching career in Oklahoma, interrupted only by WWII, when she worked as part of the war effort at Tinker AFB. In 1952, she and Charles moved their family to Elsinore, California, and then, in 1955, settled in Ontario, where Mrs. Brady taught elementary school until her retirement in 1975. She was married to Charles for 67 years until his passing in 2006. Around that time, Mrs. Brady moved to Norman, Oklahoma to live with her son Jerry, who lovingly cared for his mother until her recent passing.

Mrs. Brady, a woman before her time, was a wife, mother, and professional educator. Her intelligence, strong will, education, and independent mind served as an inspiration, especially to the young women of her family. She led by example, demonstrating that, no matter the circumstances, anyone could achieve their goals in life with hard work and persistence.

During life, Mrs. Brady enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her home on Berkeley Court. She also traveled the country with her family, visiting America's many scenic parks, museums, and historical sites. Memories of her reading local history brochures aloud from the front passenger seat remain in her children's hearts as a testament to her belief that education has no boundaries.

Mrs. Brady is survived by her three children, Jerry Ray Brady, Sarah Brady Welde, and Susan Brady Blasco, all graduates of Chaffey Union High School who, like her, went on to obtain university degrees; eleven grandchildren, Jerry Ray Brady, Jr., Cary Brady, Merri Brady, Shari Brady, John Brady, Star Kotowski, Susan Welde, Charley Welde, Matthew Brady Welde, Brady Blasco, and Buck Blasco, who affectionately refer to Mrs. Brady as their Mee-Maw; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members. Throughout her life, Mrs. Brady enriched many lives and was greatly loved. Her deeds and words continue to inspire family and friends, and her spontaneous wit and sense of humor will remain legendary among those who knew her best. Mrs. Brady will be remembered at a Rosary service at Draper Mortuary on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 6:30pm, followed by a Graveside Service at Bellevue Memorial Park in Ontario, Saturday, August 26, at 10:30am.
