James Wolfe, 92, died Tuesday, Aug. 22nd, 2017, at Autumn Leaves of Meyerland following an extended illness.
He leaves his daughters Sharon Wolfe of Riverdale, NY and Rivkah Rothschild of New York, NY, six grandchildren and one great grandchild – Aharon Leib Rothschild, Schneur Zalman Rothschild, Rachel Weiskopf, Bracha Tenenbaum, Chaya Mushka Dubov, and Menachem Rothschild – and great grandchild, Nora Hope Weiskopf.
Born and raised in Springfield, MA, the son of Rachel and Harry Wolfe, James aka "Jimmy" resided in Houston for the majority of his adult life. In his early years, he assisted his father with his traveling sales business. Jimmy also played drums in his High School band.
James served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He married Ethelyn S. Sandler in 1948. After attending the University of Houston for two years, he went into the scrap iron & metal business together with his brother-in-law.
Jimmy's extended family moved to Houston soon after he married. He was a devoted son who took excellent care of his elderly parents. Other pastimes included: playing bongo drums while listening to Yiddish and Big Band music, welding original sculptures of scrap iron, and fishing. He was a long-standing member of the JCC of Houston where he swam regularly and enjoyed the Health Club.
For 30+ years, he owned a modest beach home in Galveston where he spent every weekend walking the beach, feeding the seagulls, swimming and fishing.
Donations in memory of James Wolfe may be made to:
