Roxie Marie Downes, 80, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007, with family and friends at her side. Interment will follow at Powers Chapel Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.

Roxie was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to the late Harry and Alma Jane Patterson. Roxie's family moved to Texas early in her childhood, and they eventually settled in Falls County. Roxie married M.C. Downes on November 24, 1941. A union that would last nearly 64 years. They raised a family of two boys and two girls while moving between California and Texas. Roxie and M.C. enjoyed retirement first in Cedar Springs and then in Lott, Texas.

Roxie worked briefly outside the home, but her passion for her family kept her at home most of her life. With words of wit and a home-cooked meal, she welcomed family and friends at any time. Roxie could nurture a plant back to life, or simply put a stick in the ground, and amazingly it took root and flourished.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M.C. in 2005; sister, Nellie Patterson Downes; and brother, Johnny Patterson.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Daw and husband, Jerry, of Temple, and Barbara Halverson and husband, Baron, of Cedar Springs; sons, Buddy Downes and wife, Jerry, of San Ramon, Calif., and Danny Downes and wife, Martha, of China Spring; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her constant four-legged companion, Mitsy; brother, Pat Patterson, of Moody, Texas; sister, Irene Matthews, of Pedly, Calif.; other relatives and many friends.
