SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT. - Betty Lucille (Goodrich) Grippin, age 88, of South Burlington, passed away on Saturday, December 20th 2014 at the (UVM) University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.

Betty was born on May 30th 1926 in Binghamton, N.Y., she was the daughter of Harold and Edith Goodrich.

She graduated with highest honors from Binghamton North Senior High School in 1945.

She worked at WNBF Radio and Television in Binghamton, N.Y., writing ad copy before marrying Spencer L. Grippin in 1955 and becoming an Air Force wife, mother and Domestic Engineer.

Life in the military meant moving every few years to a different base; Spokane, Wash., Granby, Mass., Denver, Colo., Ludlow, Mass., Grand Forks, N.D., Bainbridge, N.Y., Ramey, PR, and finally Springfield, Mass.; and months with dad away on deployment during the later years of the Vietnam War.

She was a sewer, knitter, reader, cook, lunch mom, teacher, bookkeeper, banker, tax preparer, planner, and counselor. She loved crossword puzzles and Scrabble, and was a voracious reader.

She was predeceased by her parents; Harold and Edith Goodrich, stepfather; Elbert Jensen, one sister; Arlene Grippin, her former husband; Spencer Grippin, infant son; Dale Grippin, and one grandson; Derrick.
