Miles married Mary Hangen in 1946 after Miles returned from the war.. The couple moved to Manhattan, KS, where Miles obtained his veterinary degree and Mary taught laboratory techniques to veterinary students at Kansas State University. They moved from Kansas to Chilton, WI in 1951 with their two children and set up a veterinary practice. In 1967, now with five children, they moved to Madison, WI where Miles obtained a Ph.D. from UW-Madison. In 1973 they moved to Chapel Hill, NC, where Miles worked as an industrial veterinarian for Burroughs-Wellcome, and Mary worked for Quintiles, Inc. performing medical data collection. He is survived by his wife (Mary passed away in 2010); two sons, Ralph (Ralph passed away in 2016) and Robert and two daughters, Susan and Karen. He was preceded in death by daughter Julia who drowned in 1973. Also has 2 grand children and 4 great grand children.
