Oscar G. Weed, one of the oldest pioneers in the Nehalem valley, died in October, 1967, after a useful life. He was a descendant of two of the pioneer families of the area, the Weed and VonBlaricom families who came in 1874-75 when the valley was covered with dense forests.
Mr. Weed taught school in his younger days, helped operate the home farm, and in 1928 was elected County sheriff, serving through 1936. During these years he lived in St. Helens. He was active in church and school work throughout his life, and was a member of the Grange and the County Historical Society. He always aided in every way possible in the work of our organization and in the up building of the community and County.
