Melvin Briggs
Funeral services for Melvin Briggs, 70, Eland, who died at an Antigo hospital Monday, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kopitzke-Staus Funeral Home, Birnamwood. The Rev. John Boerger, of Zion Lutheran Church, Eland, will officiate and burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Shawano. Friends may call now at the funeral home, until time of services Wednesday.
Mr. Briggs was born July 14, 1901 in Friendship, son of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Briggs. On March 3, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Mich., he was married to Hazel Deering, who died in December 1960. On Sept. 12, 1964, in Birnamwood, he was married to Betty Lou Wesco, who survives.
He was a truck driver for 30 years and then was employed as a merchant in Milwaukee until 1964. He lived in Birnamwood from 1964 until 1969 when he moved to Eland. He was a Marine veteran.
Survivors, besides his wife include four sons, Melvin Briggs Jr., Sussex, and Thomas, Tim, and Terry, all of at home; three daughters, Mrs Raymond Broadhagen, Bonduel, Mrs. Murray Shank, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Kenneth Wilson, Phillips; three step-sons, Ralph and John Smith, both at home, and Jody, Brinamwood; a step-daughter, Miss Rita Smith, at home; a brother George, Waterloo; 11 grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
