"N. F. K. AKE, M. D., physician and surgeon, at Curwensville, Pa., where he has been established in practice since the summer of 1897, is a member of an old Pennsylvania family of high standing. He was born August 11, 1873, at
Reynoldsville, Jefferson county, Pa., and is the only child of his parents, Samuel V. and Frances P. (Kelly) Ake. His father was a general merchant at Houtzdale, Pa., for a number of years. His great-grandfather once owned the land for many miles surrounding the present town of Williamsburg, Blair county, which was then called Akestown, in his honor.

N. F. K. Ake was afforded excellent educational advantages and is a graduate of Houtzdale High School and later from the Medico-Chirurgical College at Philadelphia in 1897. On August 3, 1897, he established himself in medical practice at Curwensville, where he has met with more than usual success. He is a member of a number of the leading medical societies and has served as medical examiner for numerous insurance organizations. Politically he is a Democrat.

Dr. Ake was married October 21, 1896, to Miss Bertha Biddle Carter, a daughter of William V. and Hannah E. (Biddle) Carter, of Philadelphia, and they have three children, Kenneth Whittier, Frances Lenore and Hannah Dorothy. Dr. Ake is a member of the Masonic fraternity."

[Note that this Samuel V Ake is likely not the same man as the Samuel VB Ake Pennsylvania 84th infantry during the Civil War of which Company E was of Blair Co. Pa. See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KDPP-72R which shows this Samuel VB Ake's widow Lizze living in Indiana.]

Nicholas' wife Bertha and children Kenneth W and Francis L[enore] are at the home of her parents in the 1900 census:

Possibly Nicholas Ake's grandfather was William Ake who has Samuel Ake and Rosa as son and daughter (theoretically William's father and aunt). See this newspaper notice: "Doctor N. Ake, of Curwensville, spent several days this week with his aunt, Mrs. R. S. Fluke, on Second street. Dr. Ake is the son of Samuel Ake, who was born and raised on the farm now owned by John B. Robinson. "
